Orange Card is Horan Power Engineering’s authorisation management system. Already being used by multinational OEMs to manage electrical authorisations, the Orange Card system streamlines authorisation checking on site, providing certainty that you are interacting with a competent person. The cards use a QR code to direct you to the cardholder’s profile, meaning no specialist equipment is required to check the authorisations – only an internet connected smartphone, tablet or computer with a webcam. The Orange Card system was developed as part of Horan Power Engineering’s high voltage network management system, but can be used in any sector where competence of...
Grid connection application support for an independent Welsh renewables developer.
See Full Project See Full ProjectHoran Power Engineering have a longstanding relationship with independent Welsh renewable energy developer Tegni Cymru Cyf, who specialise in solar PV and wind energy. Horan Power Engineering support Tegni by providing grid connection application support – this involves the creation, submission and management of grid connection applications.
Electrical design and project management services
See Full Project See Full ProjectInitially we provided an engineer to assist drafting technical schedules for the London Array contract and to write technical specifications for all the main electrical plant. The role grew to become project management of the two offshore substations from start to finish. Most electrical equipment was installed into containerised offshore modules in Aberdeen before being shipped to the platform fabrication site in Antwerp. This unique approach allowed pre-commissioning of the modules in Aberdeen and reduced the amount of interfacing work required at the platform fabrication site. The project was delivered, commissioned and handed over to the client on time and on...
Grid expertise
See Full Project See Full ProjectThroughout 2015 and 2016 Horan Power Engineering have carried out grid connections assessments for many wind and solar projects. We are often contacted at the early stage of a project to analyse the local grid and advise on the likelihood of a cost effective connection. If a connection seems possible then we will make the grid application on behalf of our client and communicate with the distribution network operator on their behalf to provide a cost effective connection arrangement.
We have forged an excellent working relationship with our solar developer client Wirsol, for whom we have worked on three solar farm projects in the South of England with another two projects currently under construction in Northern Ireland. We manage the full scope works for earthing studies from taking the soil resistivity readings through to final fall of potential measurements and as-built report. Through the design process we liaise with the site installation team to work around installation constraints and make the design as cost effective as possible.
